The amount of pollution caused to the environment by single use plastic items is untold but visible to citizens. Every year, countless examples of single-use plastic are reported to the authorities, where no action is taken.
What is Single Use?
Single-use plastics are defined as non-reusable goods that are used for a limited period. Usage of these items are not prohibitive thus, results in litter and pollution.
Ban Announcement
The government of India announced a national ban on single-use plastic items effective from July 1, 2022. The first category of plastics that has been banned is sticks used in balloons, candy, etc. Whereas, the second category would be banning plates, cups, glasses and cutlery. Including invitation cards, cigarette packets, stirrers, and banners with a thickness of less than 100 microns.
How to Comply with the Ban?
According to the law, any café or restaurant found to violate the stated law may be subject to a massive fine.
